Latin American modernity is recognized as one of the most relevant moments for the emergence of the urban chronicle. This article aims to discuss what happens with urban representations in chronicles from the city of Santiago after Latin American modernity. Within this context, this article analyzes a corpus of chronicles which highlights the presence of the growing state apparatus, which is reflected in bureaucracy. In the chronicles written by Teófilo Cid, Daniel de la Vega y Jenaro Prieto the bohemian and cosmopolitan subject so characteristic of modernism, is replaced by the citizen and its duties.
