The celebration of the 150 years of Italian unity encourages enquiry into the events and attitudes that encouraged the birth of a national sentiment among emigrants, the role of the policies of the Italian state towards this process, and why such policies have had a negative influence on the rights to citizenship of immigrants in Italy.
