Resumen
This article examines the various ways in which indigenous people in colonial Chile engaged in musical activities that did not necessarily align with the conventional notion of «Indian musicians». By examining both formal and informal groups, as well as interstitial performance spaces, we put forth an identitarian interpretation of the process by which the term «Indian musicians» was constructed and classified. We aim to encompass a broader range of locations beyond the capital of the Reino de Chile, emphasizing the various forms of designation, representation, and self-perception of these individuals during the period under study.
