Resumen
Between the years 1730 and 1767 it is possible to contrast three very different cases of church ornamentation and the use of sacred images in the Jesuit province of Chile. These are the church of San Miguel in Santiago, the chapels of the Chiloé archipelago and the mission of Father José García in the direction of the Strait of Magellan. This comparison allows us to reflect on the adornment of sacred space, the effectiveness of sacred images and the tension between them and the sacralized natural landmarks.
