Resumen

The current study focused on the impact of multiple antifungal drug approach used in 8 children undergoing stem cell transplantation for very high risk hematological diseases and having invasive pulmonary fungal infections in the pre-transplant phase. All patients performed the pretransplant and post-transplant antifungal therapy for an average time of 73 days and 185 days, respectively. The combination of two drugs contemporarily up to a maximum of five sequential drugs was given, according to clinical response and drug-related toxicity. The above treatment allowed a clinical and radiological resolution of invasive pulmonary infection in 7 out of 8 patients in which allogeneic stem cell transplantation could not be postponed.
