Resumen

The body with its diseases and sufferings is one of the most important issues addressed by the narrative of Lina Meruane. In two of her texts -Seeing Red and Nervous System-, Meruane mixes stylistic elements of the novel with autobiographic gestures, to tell us stories of the body. The body is shown as an inscription surface with many entangled meanings, generating subject and self as effects of the materiality that sustains them. The body is matter, and therefore vulnerable and exposed to pain and death. The body fails and turns against us. Parting from the notions of monstrosity and short circuit, this article explores the reflections motivated by Meruane's texts, addressing the impossible relationship we have with our body, and the entangled forms in which corporality and writing are related.
