Resumen

The recent global disruptions have severely impacted supply chains to the extent of destabilizing manufacturing businesses and necessitating strong adaptations to ensure survival. In response to this evolving landscape, integrating advanced technologies into manufacturing processes has become essential for replacing traditional methods and enabling resilience and flexibility in uncertain environments. Industry 5.0 adoption is a very crucial opportunity to shape a sustainable and digitalized future and strengthening supply chain resilience (SCR). Based on dynamic resource-based perspective and employing a time-lagged design with data from 409 manufacturing firms, our study examined the influence of Industry 5.0 adoption on SCR through organizations’ dynamic remanufacturing capabilities. The study results show that Industry 5.0 adoption has a strong positive impact on SCR, enabling more dynamic remanufacturing processes, while the critical boundary condition of circular economy readiness (CEcR) increases the connection between Industry 5.0 adoption and remanufacturing capabilities. Such preparedness can promote sustainability initiatives like recycling and reuse that when combined with the latest applications of technologies lead to synergizing benefits of resilience and sustainability. Moreover, the moderating effects of the strategic orientations indicate that flexible and structured strategies play a crucial role in strengthening the correlation between dynamic remanufacturing capabilities and SCR, especially in turbulent markets. These insights have meaningful implications for managers and policy makers trying to create resilient, sustainable and strategic supply chains by effective adoption of Industry 5.0 technologies.
