Andrés de Santa Cruz y su cautiverio en Chile (1844-1846)

This article aims to analyze the stay of the Bolivian General Andres de Santa Cruz in Chile, after the defeat of the Confederate Army in the fields of Yungay. From the review of the press, letters, and official documents of the time, the traditional image of Santa Cruz as a threat to the interests of Chile contrasts with the care granted by President Bulnes during his stay in this country. The study of the biography of Santa Cruz and the relationship with his peers, at this stage of his life, can approach the construction of the Latin American states from a different perspective. The concern of the Chilean government by the Bolivian explain the close relationship between the leaders of this period, trade links and the transition from one generation before and after independence.
