Abstract
The objective of this article is to propose an explanation to understand some complexities of the aesthetic manifestations that took place in some indigenous territories during the last century of Spanish colonization (18th century), under the influence of missionary orders, in this specific case, the Franciscan Order (O.F.M.). The internal circulation that the seraphic order, of the province of San Antonio de Charcas, had among its convents located in the South Andean region, in particular: in southern Peru, the Bolivian Altiplano and northern Chile. To verify the above, we propose, as a basis, the study of the religious complexes that constitute the temples of the doctrines of Yanque and Lari (Arequipa, Peru) and the doctrines of Codpa and Belén (Arica and Parinacota, Chile). In order to define these aspects, the analysis of typologies, doorways, ornaments and construction systems will be considered. From the above, we will analyze the transit of artists, materials and techniques, both indigenous and mestizo, that both singers, curacas and brotherhoods promoted as part of the economic and cultural circuit established by the Franciscan mission in the southern Andean region. All of the above can be verified, as well as increased, by taking into consideration the existing documentation in the Franciscan, General Archive of the Nation (Peru) and of Limits of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lima, together with that which is kept in the Archbishop's Archive of Arequipa, and the study of restoration files found in the archives of the College of Architects of Arequipa and in the Bishopric of Arica.
