The Realistic Utopia of a World Without Borders

Abstract

Frontiers have a major influence on our lives. In our politically organized world, states have the power to decide on the entry and residence status of potential immigrants. This chapter will examine the utopia of a world of open borders for immigration. In such a world, people freely choose their place of residence without being subject to state arbitrariness. The thesis of this chapter is that the possibility of immigrating and residing in a country of choice can be conceptualized as a realistic utopia in Rawlsian sense.
