Abstract

Maternal mental health has been one of the most studied factors in child adjustment to the preschool environment, in so far it's a predictor for the attachment style between mother and infant. This study examines the impact of maternal mental health in child behavioral problems. 27 dyads and the staff of the care center were evaluated. Preschooler's behavioral problems were evaluated, from both the mother's and the care center staff's perception. Mother's anxious and depressive symptoms were assessed. Results show that higher levels of maternal depression and anxiety worsen the mother's perception of the child adjustment, possibly impacting the child's adaptation to the care center.
