N2 - To build a participatory strategy that involves all the stakeholders of the agri-food value chain related to rural horticultural sector, implies the identification the key actors, generating a diagnosis with secondary and primary sources of information, developing workshops to identify gapsa roadmap. It must contain the main topics in the framework to be executed, under a multidiciplinary vision. Thus, it is possible to lay the foundations to generate actions for the multiple actors of the agri-food value chain, including research institutions and regional government, who participate in the generation of framework that addresses some of the key gaps identified in the field of: Human resources, development of new markets, and agronomic knowledge for productive diversification. This chapter describe a study case for the improvement of the production and commercialization of the horticultural sector for regional agriculture in La Araucania, Chile. The main areas are related to its development as an alternative for reconversion and diversification of production systems. This through the execution of three key aspects: (1) Generation of agronomic knowledge for different agroecological zones; (2) Knowledge transfer through the use of different extension methods with an emphasis on food safety and traceability, crop agronomy, field days and thematic seminars; (3) Linking the industry and development of new markets. This generates an articulation of efforts by the different public and private stakeholders in the agri-food value chain, which would improve the visualization of the sector as a key actor for the development of regional horticulture and improvment of the quality of lifestyle of the rural world. This development is possible thanks to the financing of the Regional Government of La Araucanía, with the approval of the Regional Council of La Araucanía and the execution by the Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA) Carillanca, Temuco, Chile.
