Abstract
This article examines three aspects related to the role Monseñor José Ignacio Víctor Eyzaguirre played in the Chilean artistic and cultural fields. First, this study will analyze the ideas and artistic forms promoted by the priest within the religious sphere; secondly, his participation in the promotion of the secular culture, in which the art pieces that he owned acquired particular relevance; and finally, the relationship between the notions that guided his performance as religious art reformer and the ideas behind the formation of his own private art collection.
