Abstract

This chapter will examine the effect of 2D chalcogenide materials in energy and environmental remedial applications. Details on how materials are classified as chalcogenides and the best approaches for fabricating such materials are provided. The chapter focuses on the impact of chalcogenides on emerging solar cells (thin films), supercapacitors, lubricants, carbon dioxide (CO2) capture, and water-splitting. Finally, a summary of the features of this emerging material along with its future potential and challenges are provided.
