Abstract

Objective: To describe the most prevalent emotional indicators in obese patients candidatesfor bariatric surgery, using the Rorschach test. Methodology: Non-experimental research with a descriptive character, and a transversal design. The Rorschach test was used as a method of data collection and a semi -structured interview was applied to collect demographic information. The participants were 248 candidates for bariatric surgery, men (27.8%) and women (72.2%) between 18 and 68 with a BMI >30.Results: Elements of repression and lack of affective modulation, especially in relation to aggression, are observed. Anxiety and depression indicators associated to authorityfigures and intimacy are also seen, as well as low interest relating to others, and a type of labile, dependent and immature bond. Conclusion: Considering the results of the study, and the presence of emotional indicators which may involve some conflicts, it seems necessary to continue researching and developing tools to evaluate these patients.
