Abstract

In the Mg-Ni system, one of the best hydrogen absorbers is the intermetallic compound Mg2Ni. This compound can be easily activated and it forms the Mg2NiH4 ternary hydride with a 3.6 wt% H/M ratio. The production of a high purity, single phase Mg2Ni, is made possible through special techniques such as the vapor exchange diffusion reaction of the elements due to the peritectic decomposition of the compound.
