Abstract

The ability to regulate our emotions is fundamental to psychological well-being and healthy relationships. In recent years, there has been growing interest in how compassion (toward others) and self-compassion (toward oneself ) can promote emotional regulation. The following presents a review of the scientific literature on the interrelationship between emotional regulation, compassion, and self-compassion. The review is organized into three main sections: first, a comprehensive conceptual framework of emotional regulation, compassion, and self-compassion is described; then, how compassion and self-compassion contribute to emotional regulation and co-regulation is examined; and finally
