Abstract
Purpose of the study: This study seeks to understand from the adolescents' perspective with obesity, the characteristics that an effective treatment for this disorder should have. Method: We used qualitative methodology. The sample consisted of a total of nine teenagers who participate recently or had participated in an obesity treatment. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and was analyzed using the procedures of the Grounded Theory, generating a comprehensive model of inductive character, through axial coding process. Results: The results indicate that for obesity treatment become effective there must be intrinsic motivation by the adolescents to generate a change model. It is necessary to have parental support, and treatment must be multidisciplinary, flexible and personalized. Conclusions: It is important that treatments for adolescents with obesity become successful, consider the characteristics of adolescence and the treatment strategies are aimed to generate changes in the lifestyle of adolescents rather than the lost of the weight. The results contribute to understand from the adolescent's perspective what elements of the treatment and the context may favor a successful intervention in the obesity treatment.
