BODY FRAGMENTATIONS AND EXPANSIONS IN SELECTED WORKS BY DIAMELA ELTIT

This article traces a trajectory throughout Diamela Eltit’s oeuvre — from the Zona de dolor performances through Lumpérica and El cuarto mundo to her latest novel, Falla humana— to examine the emergence of what the article theorizes as fragmented and expanded bodies. The resulting corporalities elude traditional notions of unity; instead, they manifest as bodies that fragment and extend toward both human and non-human entities, thereby challenging the representational frameworks currently available to account for their material reality. Drawing upon the concepts of the fragmented body (Butler) and expanded bodies (McLuhan), the text aims to elucidate the ways in which Eltit’s narrative conceptualizes corporalities within their inherent fissures and overflows.
