Abstract

This article reports on the implementation of formative feedback for writing using multicolored annotations that are linked to a rubric. The tool implemented comments and marks colored according to each criterion in the rubric. A quasi-experimental setting was used in a handwritten writing task to compare single and multicolored annotations' effect on students' performance. Results showed the experimental group performed better than the control group on several criteria, without spending more time reviewing the feedback.
